Want Muscle at the Classic Car Show? You’ve got it.

With the classic car show just around the corner, its organisers have confirmed that there'll be a huge turnout of American muscle cars. From Shelby Mustangs to supercharged V8 Chryslers; I can already imagine the noise this exhibition will create.

It's sure to be a brilliant celebration of days when fuel was almost too cheap and these pony car owners could afford to fill up every time they needed to go shopping.

Nowadays, it's refreshing to look back at the past and see what motoring was like for the older generations. However, we never really received proper American muscle in South Africa. In fact, to this day, we still don't get many American performance cars – a 2.3-litre Mustang doesn't count.

That's exactly, though, what makes these events so special. Mostly, the ones present on South African roads have been specially imported with a lot of time and money spent to just get them to events like these. We have all been through some sort of governmental process, so you can imagine the mission it'd be to licence classic left-hand drive vehicles like these. It's not exactly something I'd be too keen to do.

Any type of vehicle gathering is one to look forward to, yet the classic car show is the pinnacle of classic motoring meets in Gauteng. Organizer Paulo Calisto is expecting a selection of Dodge Chargers, Ford Mustangs and Shelby Cobras, Camaros and even Mercury Cougars to roll into the Nasrec centre while making a heck of a beautiful noise.

He claims that there is a massive interest in building classic American muscle cars in South Africa, so the demand for the vehicles is astronomical. Needless to say, the variety of American muscle cars is going to be extensive and will impress even the most fanatical purist out there.

The Classic Car Show is just around the corner and is open to the public from 8:00am on Sunday the 3rd of July. Tickets will be on sale at R80 for an adult. You can be sure to expect one of the most diverse car specials around. There'll be European legends and Japanese titans, along with the already covered American muscle display. It doesn't matter what type of car enthusiast you are, there'll be something for everybody.
