Alfa Romeo's 1000 Miglia 2024 gets underway

New Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio Super Sport limited editions will feature.

The 1000 Miglia has always been a significant race event in the realm of motorsports since the first race kicked off in 1927.

As its name suggests, the race spans over a thousand miles (1,600km) through the scenic Italian countryside. It features vintage cars produced up until 1957 and speaking of such, Alfa Romeo has a long history of participation in the 1000 Miglia races.

The 42nd 1000 Miglia kicked off on the 11th and over 400 models are taking part, 50 of which are Alfa Romeo variants thus making it the largest team by default. The 1900 Super Sport (1954) and the 1900 Super Sprint (1956) are competing in the race.

At the helm of the former is the 1993 DTM champion with the Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI, Nicol Larini and his navigator Luca Ciucci. Piloting the 1900 Super Sprint is Andrea Farina, a journalist and vintage car expert, alongside Davide Cironi, an influencer and YouTuber with an avid love for performance.

Accompanying the duo are the new Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio Super Sport limited edition models which debuted a few weekends ago. These specific models pay homage to the brand’s first victory at the 1000 Miglia in 1928 with the 6C 1500 Super Sport. Also, the Alfa Romeo Junior will make its first public appearance following its debut in April this year.

Like in 2021, the 42nd race of the 1000 Miglia is taking place in an anti-clockwise configuration and it kicks off from Brescia, passing Bergamo, Novara and Vercelli before reaching Turin for the first stage finish.

On the 2nd day, the vintage convoy will commence its journey southwards, ascending the Langhe and making its way through the heart of Acqui Terme. The route then leads to Genoa, marking its debut in the 1000 Miglia 2024, before tracing the Tyrrhenian coast to conclude in Viareggio.

The third day will see the convoy divert the course inland to encompass Lucca and Castiglione della Pescaia, entering Lazio via Marta, Viterbo, and Ronciglione, culminating on Rome’s iconic Via Veneto.

On the fourth day, the teams will navigate northwards through Orvieto, Siena, Prato, and the Futa and Raticosa passes, before reaching their destination in San Lazzaro di Savena (Bologna).

On the final day, the legendary 1000 Miglia will traverse Ferrara, Bovolone, and Villafranca di Verona, followed by a scenic drive around Lake Garda via Valtenesi and Salò. The grand finale will be the traditional parade down Brescia’s Via Venezia, marking the end of an extraordinary journey.
