Lexus Sport Concept teased as LFA spiritual successor
There’s just been a lot of speculation around the return of the legendary Lexus LFA, and the truth of the matter here is that it’s not coming back. Its production ended in 2012 after just 500 units, and it’s safe to say that it was truly a collector’s piece of kit that still embodies the very best of what a supercar should be.
Times surely have changed, and the Japanese marque has definitely shifted its focus as it adjusts to the shift towards carbon neutrality. That said, Lexus has debuted what it calls the Sport Concept, which gives us a glimpse of what future sports cars from the brand could look like. Interesting.
At this stage, Lexus hasn’t shared much except for the fact that the Sport Concept marks an important moment for it. Even in concept form, it looks absolutely stunning and is truly an incredible sight to behold. With its sculpted two-door form, low-slung silhouette, and wide stance, it should look even better in production form. Another important factor that the brand has mentioned is that it carries the LC 500 and LFA’s legacy forward.
If your memory is sharp, you will recall the Sports Concept that Lexus first showed a few years ago. We still don’t know if this is an evolution of that or something completely new, but it promised some serious firepower with an electric dual-motor setup with over 740kW, good for a 0-100km/h sprint in 2 seconds and an EV range of up to 700km.
Is it petrol or electric? At this stage, we can only speculate, but looking at the brand’s vision of becoming a full EV maker by 2035 and what was allegedly strapped to the Sports Concept, it wouldn’t make sense to build a sports car of this nature fitted with, say, a V10 engine. Deep inside, we wouldn’t mind such a car, especially considering how special the V10 LFA was said to be.
Lastly, the Sport Concept is expected to make its debut sometime in 2026 for the 2027 model year. Toyota showcased the concept at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, so a debut should be imminent.
