David Brown’s Mini eMastered Reimagined as an Electrified Icon

The last time something like this happened, well, as far as we know, was when Everrati and Charge Cars revealed their electrified iconic Porsche 911 ST and the electric Ford Mustang, respectively.

These were presented as bespoke works that redefined classic cars with advanced electric technology. This time around, a British company called David Brown Automotive has showcased its electrified Mini eMastered model, which is based on the iconic Mini but blends an iconic and classic physique with modern-day technologies.

One thing that caught our attention was the weight and how tiny the eMastered is. For a clear perspective, it weighs only 640 kg, which matches the original car’s overall weight despite the implementation of EV battery packs.

Gone is the original Mini’s 0.8-litre 4-cylinder engine, and it’s been stripped out to make way for an electric powerhouse that consists of an 18.8kWh battery pack that feeds power to a front-mounted Zonic electric motor with 72kW and 175Nm of instant torque.

Its 0-100km/h sprint is dispatched silently in 8.5 seconds before running out of power at an electronically limited top speed of 148km/h with the sports mode engaged. Just so you know, the ICE-powered Mini was capable of producing only 25kW, which helped it enroute to a top speed of 116km/h. 

As for the cruising range, the David Brown eMastered can travel up to 177km between chargers, and the battery pack can be recharged using a 6.6kW AC plug, which takes roughly three hours to fully recharge it.

To get the Mini eMastered to look identical to its original counterpart, the charging port is located at the same place where you’d normally find the petrol filler cap, while the iconic silhouette has been retained.

Buyers have the option to specify the materials used as part of the brand’s commitment towards sustainability.

The interior has been modernised with the inclusion of new technologies such as a Pioneer infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone pairing, new seats adorned in brown leather, a wooden-rimmed 3-spoke steering wheel, and bespoke aluminium switches and buttons.

The truth of the matter is that icons such as the original Mini will go down in history as special models with timeless design, and having something like the eMastered Mini promises to stand as an immortal legend.
