As part of updating its Cayenne hybrid SUV portfolio, Porsche is introducing bigger batteries to the 2021 model range.

The Cayenne E-Hybrid and the Turbo S E-Hybrid SUVs now come fitted with a 17.9kWh battery pack that replaces the 14.1-kWh battery capacity that lurks in the current models.

According to the German marque, the new batteries increase the fully-electric driving range of both SUVs by up to 30%. The E-Hybrid can now travel up to 48 km when measured in line with the WLTP EAER City cycle (56 km when measured in NEDC).

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid covers up to 42 km (up to 53 km on NEDC).

Both SUVs utilise an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission that delivers 100 kW and 400 Nm.

Paired with the electric motor is a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine with an unaltered combined power output of 340 kW while the S version employs a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 unit with an unchanged 500 kW.

The Stuttgart marque has also optimised the driving modes of the standard Sport Chrono Package to further improve efficiency and performance.

Porsche says a charging power of up to 7.2 kW can be achieved with the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect and buyers can charge the SUVs using a Mode 3 charging cable.

The Cayenne e-hybrid range is available to order in Mzansi, with first deliveries expected in early 2021.
