VW Tiguan Allspace to be Replaced by the 7-Seater Tayron

The Tiguan is one of the most popular midsize SUVs on the market, and it has built quite a reputation among young parents and stylish business people. But there is a new car in development by the VW group that, by all appearances, will target the same target market.

Unfortunately, this does mean that the Tiguan Allspace nameplate has likely run its course. According to reports, the Tayron, which will be built on VW's MQB-Evo platform, is set to slot in as its replacement.

The Tayron will employ a stretched version of the MQB-Evo platform and come in 5- and 7-seat configurations, with Volkswagen offering more customization through a choice of SUV or Coupe SUV body styles.

There will be a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) available with the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and the 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine. There will also be a 152kW and a 203kW plug-in hybrid model available which will house a 1.5-litre petrol engine.

Volkswagen announced that the Tayron is a global car, meaning that it is likely to arrive on our shores by 2025. It is interesting that Volkswagen has opted for a diesel option, as the world is moving away from such motors. But knowing the local popularity of the Tiguan and the added extra row option, this is a car that will get us South Africans excited.
