Suzuki Swift Concept Leaks Ahead of Its Official Debut

How swiftly time passes. It’s been more than five years since the third-generation Suzuki Swift landed in South Africa, following its debut in Japan at the end of 2016.

It comes as no surprise to learn that its replacement is on its way, taking into account that the lifespan of a car is normally up to seven years. Speaking of the fourth generation Swift model, Suzuki says it will debut at the Japan Mobility Show to be held at the Tokyo Big Sight Exhibition Centre at the end of the month.

Although Suzuki refers to it as the Swift Concept, we believe the production version will closely resemble the concept images leaked online before the official announcement.

At this stage, details on the new Swift are sparse, but Suzuki mentioned that it will be equipped with a host of advanced safety technologies, including collision mitigation braking, dual-sensor brake support, an adaptive high-beam system, and driver monitoring. Suzuki also mentions high-efficiency engines. While that last bit is rather vague, we expect nothing less from a car that has a reputation for being exceptionally frugal.

However, from the pictures, we can observe a newly styled front end featuring a redesigned front grille where the 'S' logo now sits on the bumper, reshaped headlights, and lower-positioned fog lights.

The rear appears to sport reshaped tail lights with darkened clusters. Additionally, the C-pillar-mounted rear door handles have been removed and are now placed in their traditional positions.

The interior, on the other hand, seems to have undergone a considerable overhaul, thanks to a new instrument cluster, a floating infotainment system, two USB ports upfront, and what looks like a combination of faux leather and hard plastic.

As mentioned previously, the new Suzuki Swift concept will debut at the Tokyo Big Sight Exhibition Centre during the Japan Mobility Show at month's end, with more details expected to be revealed then.

Knowing how committed the Suzuki brand is to the local market, the new Swift will likely join the market sometime in the next year.
