Rimac does it again
Rimac clearly has a point to prove, and it seems that its long list of prior accolades hasn’t quenched its thirst for performance records just yet. From what started as the fastest accelerating electric vehicle, which was achieved in a Rimac e-M3 in 2011, to now owning nearly all the records possible for acceleration and performance, Rimac has done it again by achieving the fastest 0-400-0 km/h time ever in the Nevera R.
Clocking 25.79 seconds from a standstill up to 400km/h and back down to zero beats the previous record by 2.04 seconds. This time, it was achieved in the slightly more powerful Nevera R. It also achieved a faster 0-100 time of 1.72 seconds, 0.9 seconds faster than its own previous record. Not only does it accelerate in a rapid fashion, but it also has long legs, setting a new record for the fastest EV top speed at 431.45 km/h.
The Nevera has been slightly upgraded to 1,550kW from its previous 1,408kW, and with a new aerodynamic package and Michelin Cup 2 tyres, what we thought was already an insane EV has been taken up a step. Handling has also been improved with a claimed 10% less understeer and a 5% increase in lateral grip.
Overall, this Nevera R broke 24 new records, most of which were already held by the Nevera. It's clear that the brand still has a taste for blood, so it will likely come back with an even faster model, but for now, the Nevera R is playing in a league of its own, and very few cars can compete even in the top speed runs.
Yes, petrol-powered monsters still retain the legs to carry a higher top speed over EVs, like the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolute, but none get away from the line with as much enthusiasm. It's another impressive outing from the brand, but now we want to see it compete on the racetrack, where handling comes into play.
