Monster Jam ramps its way back to South Africa

Following its successful first visit to South Africa in 2019, which saw all three stadia sold out and 63,000 tickets sold in Johannesburg alone, Monster Jam is making a comeback to the motorsport scenery in 2023 and again, with a three-city tour.

The adrenaline-filled tour will kick off in Cape Town at the DHL stadium on 22 April, followed by the FNB stadium on 29 April. It will conclude at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on the 6th of May.

As for the provisional lineup, eight monster trucks are set to appear. These include Grave Digger, Max-DTM, Megalodon, El Toro Loco, Monster Mutt Dalmatian and, for the first time, Earth Shaker. The all-star drivers competing in SA will be announced later.

Each truck weighs around 4.5 tonnes and can do backflips, vertical two-wheel skills as well as race at speeds of up to 110 km/h, thanks to supercharged V8 powertrains that churn out well over 1,120 kW of power.

Keeping true to their 'monster' nameplate, the trucks are four metres high, four metres wide and sit on tyres that are 1.7 metres tall, which enables them to jump as far as 43 metres.

Monster Jam is a showcase of courageous feats.

The Monster Jam event is produced by American–based Feld Entertainment and is supported locally by McDonald's SA, Showtime Management and SuperSport. Those keen to attend can purchase exclusive advance tickets from 30 June until 04 July via the McDonald's SA app, while public tickets are earmarked to go on sale on 5 July 2022 at www.showtime.co.za/ or www.ticketmaster.co.za.

Attendees before the event can also purchase Pit Party tickets which cost R150 each. Pit Party ticketholders can see the trucks up close, meet their favourite drivers and crews, get autographs, take 'selfies' with the drivers and trucks and enjoy other family-friendly fun.

Quantities are limited and available only with an event ticket priced at R150, R250, R350, R450 and R600. The Pit Party is from 1pm to 3:30pm with a final entry at 3:00pm. The Monster Jam drivers depart the Pit Party at 3:30pm.

At the event, fans will be able to vote for the winner in the Skills and Freestyle competitions via real-time, in-stadium fan voting on their smartphones.

"Monster Jam is a global premier experience which entertains and delights millions around the planet, bringing families of all ages together," said Magnus Danielsson, Vice President of Motorsports for Feld Entertainment Inc, owner of Monster Jam.

"We are excited to be bringing Monster Jam back to South Africa. The record numbers from last time around speak for themselves, and now we're looking forward to exceeding them and putting on the biggest event so far! Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban are all definitely must-experiences, and tickets will for sure be in high demand!"
