Lexus IS range gets spec change for 2022

Lexus introduced a significant makeover to its IS sedan in March last year. This also saw the range getting an electrified variant in the form of the hybrid-only 300h model for the first time.

For the 2022 model year, the Japanese carmaker is giving IS improvements and specification advancements. The goal is to keep it fresh in its respective segment, where the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class compete.

Like before, the IS 300h is sold in three trim levels; EX, SE and F Sport. To begin with the most notable changes, the IS 300h ditches the hybrid insignia and blue logo as the brand continues to push towards New Energy Vehicle products. The push-start button shade has been changed from blue to gun metallic, while the range-topping F Sport model now comes with a sunroof.

An easier to operate infotainment system is now part and parcel of the updated IS.

Lexus offers an electric parking brake and a 10.3" touch-display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration as standard across the range – a definite improvement over the clunky haptic system of old. The EX is fitted with smart entry and start, heated and power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a 10-speaker audio system.

As for the SE and F Sport variants, both feature a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, navigation system, voice control, and LED headlights with automatic high beams. The range-opening EX and mid-range SE models sit on 18" alloy wheels, while the F Sport upgrades to 19" wheels.

The SE and F Sport feature a pre-collision system with daytime/night-time pedestrian detection plus daytime cyclist detection, all-speed active cruise control, lane tracing assist, blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, plus a panoramic view monitor.

Powering the range is a petrol-hybrid 2.5-litre engine that churns out a total system output of 133 kW and 221 Nm of torque. With the hybrid and petrol engine combination, the IS can achieve a total system output of 164 kW of power, suitable for an 8.7-second sprint to 100 km/h before maxing out at 200 km/h.

Lexus IS Pricing

  • Lexus IS EX: R924,200
  • Lexus IS SE: R988,500
  • Lexus IS F Sport: R1,007,300

The entire IS range boasts a 7-year/105,000 km warranty and comprehensive maintenance plan. The vehicle service intervals are pegged at every 15,000 km, alternatively once a year.
