Carbon pioneers

Bentley has announced a new carbon fibre wheel developed specifically for its Bentayga SUV and will be available to order from late 2021. 

Engineered by Bucci Composites, the new 22” carbon wheel is said to be the largest in production and offers a vast range of benefits beyond the initial 6 kg improvement in unsprung mass per wheel.

According to Bentley, it is the first carbon wheel ever produced to pass all Technical Inspection Association standards. 

The newly-developed rim also went through testing including bi-axial stress testing, radial and lateral impact testing, tyre over-pressure, and excessive torque tests. 

The wheel was tested at the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife. 

Besides just weight-saving, the new wheel is said to offer increased safety, enhanced braking response as well as reduced tyre wear. 

Buyers can order the new wheel via Mulliner. Other unique features that can further complement the 22” wheel include a carbon front splitter, sill extensions plus a rear diffuser while the interior can be optionally fitted with a high gloss carbon fibre veneer.
