Bentley’s Flying Spur unleashes four-door fury

A few months ago, Bentley announced that its Flying Spur Speed would ditch the iconic W12 engine for a smaller yet still powerful hybridised 4.0-litre V8 engine as part of its Beyond100 strategy.

Today, the folks from Crewe have unveiled the fourth instalment of the posh 4-door saloon, which, as expected, uses the same hybrid 4.0-litre V8 engine that also does work in the new Continental GT Speed

Here, we are talking about an astonishing 575kW and mountain-shaking 1,000Nm of torque, enough to catapult the large sedan from rest to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds. This, as you might have noticed, makes the Flying Spur the most powerful sedan to ever wear the Bentley badge.

For those zero-emission commutes, Bentley says the Flying Spur can travel up to 76km on battery power alone. With both setups in place, it will be capable of reaching distances of up to 830km. Achieving this in real-world driving conditions would certainly be astonishing.

Aesthetically, the Flying Spur Speed is a true work of art, with much more than meets the eye. It features a new Speed-specific grille, front bumper, and rear diffuser, along with a body-shade-painted styling package known as the aero package. Buyers who prefer a different look can opt for a carbon fibre finish.

Additional features include new 22-inch Ten Swept Spoke wheel options in two finishes, along with two other 22-inch designs in black, dark tint, and Pale Brodgar Satin finishes.

The interior has been revamped and now features a new digital instrument cluster with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with the new My Bentley App Studio. Music lovers will appreciate the standard 10-speaker, 650-watt audio system, which can be upgraded to a 16-speaker, 1,500-watt Bang & Olufsen system. If that’s not enough, Bentley offers a 19-speaker, 2,200-watt system that can surely rattle a few cages.

According to Bentley, the new Flying Spur should be quieter than before, thanks to the laminated glass for the windscreen and side windows.

The new Bentley Flying Spur demonstrates the enduring relevance of performance sedans. It seamlessly integrates breathtaking performance with exceptional luxury and refinement in every aspect.
