Following its debut sometime before the end of 2022, Volvo says order books for its coupe C40 are officially opened.

The C40 Recharge slots below the XC40, and it’s the first Volvo model to be designed as pure electric while also having the added feather of a leather-free interior in its cap. It’s only available to order through the My Volvo website and offered exclusively in range-topping Ultimate trim.

According to Volvo SA, initial allocated models are capped at 50 units, and the first customer deliveries are earmarked for June.

As a reminder, the C40 Recharge packs two electric motors – one mounted on the front axle and one at the rear for a combined power output of 300 kW and 660 Nm of torque. With a range of up to 444 km thanks to a 78 kWh battery pack, it blasts silently from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds.

The C40 Recharge comes standard with electronically-adjustable front seats, seat heating for both front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, wireless smartphone charging and 2-zone climate control. It features a 9.0” touchscreen powered by Android, a 12.3” digital driver display, and a 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

Priced at R1,285,000, the C40 Recharge comes with the Volvo Care package, which includes a 5-year maintenance plan and warranty (with the battery pack covered for eight years or 160,000 km), a home charging wall box and a public charging cable.

As a coupe version of the XC40, the Volvo C40 Recharge combines performance and the sporty silhouette associated with coupes. With that price tag, it looks like a reasonable value.
