Rimac Nevera is now the world's fastest-production EV

We knew something interesting was brewing at Rimac over the past few months. Just so you know, the Rimac Nevera completed the quarter-mile run in a time of 8.58 seconds, thus making it the fastest accelerating production car.

The Nevera set a new world record for electric production cars when it reached an astonishing 412 km/h at the Papenburg test track in Germany. That's not all, by the way. The Nevera is, officially, also the fastest production EV in the world.

The top-speed run was made possible by setting the Rimac to its top-speed mode, which aerodynamically prepares the Nevera for optimum stability at high speeds. It was also fitted with road-legal Michelin Cup 2R tyres with an oversight Michelin technician who monitored their condition.

At the helm was the brand's Chief Test and Development driver, Miro Zrnčević, who said that it was a challenge to get the perfect entry onto the straight from the track's twisty sections to give the car the best possible chance of reaching a top speed.

"To travel at 412 km/h means travelling at a third of the speed of sound. Simply achieving that alone in a road car is incredibly complex. With the Nevera, we have created a car that can travel long distances on a single charge, tackle tight and twisting race tracks and drift and break straight-line speed records, both for acceleration and V-MAX", says Miro.

According to Rimac, the Nevera's top speed was measured using a Racelogic V-Box, a high-precision GPS-based measurement device.

As a reminder, the Rimac Nevera wields four bespoke Rimac-engineered electric motors plus a 120 kWh battery pack suited for an astounding 1,427 kW and 2,360 Nm. It dashes from a standstill to 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds.

The same Rimac Nevera was crowned the Best Electric Performance Car at the TopGear Electric Awards 2022.
