Maserati has just announced that it will make its debut as the first Italian manufacturer to compete in Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with ROKiT Venturi Racing.

The announcement of the multi-year partnership took place at the Rome E-Prix. Maserati is set to start on the grid with the new Gen 3 car which is said to be the fastest, lightest and most powerful E single-seater ever.

Accompanying the press release on the annoucement was a picture that depicts the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore next to Davide Grasso and Scott Swid, CEOs of Maserati and ROKiT Venturi Racing and it grabbed our full attention.

The teased Folgore seems to still be a prototype and will likely debut in 2023 as the brand pushes towards becoming a fully-electric entity by the year 2030.

As a fully-electric sports car, the Folgore will likely feature a sealed front bumper bottom air intake but still spawns the familiar front grille with different headlights. The rear is bolstered with slim LEDs plus a striking diffuser.

The prototype rides on beautifully designed alloy wheels which sizes remain unknown at this stage while the wheels are home to red brake callipers.

In-depth information regarding the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore still remain scarce but speculations say it could have about 895 kW of power thanks to an 800-Volt battery pack, a new platform as well as three electric motors enabling the fully-electric sports car to sprint from 0-100 km/h in less than three seconds.
