Lexus NX hybrid destined for SA

Roughly two months after Lexus announced that the next-gen NX is available to order in SA, the Japanese manufacturer also confirmed hybrid variants earmarked for the local market.

All-hybrid power

Only three trim levels are available; NX 350h EX, 350h SE and range-topping F-Sport hybrid. All three variants are powered by a 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor to deliver a total system output of 179 kW.

As standard, the new Lexus NX range comes with a motor-driven AWD E-Four system mounted on the rear transaxle. The hybrid system design has been improved with a new front transaxle and a compact lithium-ion battery.

Like the normal Lexus NX models, the hybrids wield an 8-speed automatic transmission.

More exterior shades than colours in a rainbow...

On the outside, the Lexus NX comes standard with LED headlights and an automatic high-beam. The range is available in nine exterior shades; White Quartz, Sonic Titanium, Sonic Chrome, Graphite Black, Terrane Khaki, Celestial Blue, Blazing Carnelian, Black, and Madder Red while the F Sport grade further offers the exclusive White Nova and Poseidon Blue.

Oh the detail.

The EX rides on standard 18” wheels with sharp machined spokes and dark grey coating while the SE upgrades to standard 20” wheels with contrasting dark and chrome accents. The F Sport’s 20” wheels have a dynamic design that features accentuated sharp edges with a super-gloss finish.

Plush interior... what else did you expect?

The interior is fitted with a 14” touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable and heated front seats (front and rear for SE grade), heads-up display for the SE grade and the human-centric Tazuna cockpit concept across the range. The hybrid SE grade and F-Sport are fitted as standard with a panoramic view monitor, wireless smartphone charging as well as a sliding panoramic roof.

Let's hope it's touchscreen.

In terms of finish, the new Lexus NX range comes with four trim upholstery colours; Black, Hazel, Rich Cream and Dark Rose exclusively reserved for the EX trim. The SE’s trim colours are the same, however, include a wood element in the cabin. The hybrid F-Sport boasts three interior trim options in unique F-Sport upholstery; Black, Flare Red and White.

Order books for the new Lexus NX hybrid are currently open, however, the brand states that not all variants are available due to current supply constraints.

  • Lexus NX 350h EX R888,500
  • Lexus NX 350h SE R1,040,700
  • Lexus NX 350h F Sport hybrid R1,065,500.

The range is delivered with the Lexus Warranty Experience featuring the brand’s best-in-class seven-year/105,000 km Warranty and Full Maintenance Plan.
