Toyota’s new RAV4 is here

10 April, 2013 | by Benedict Pather

Say hello to the new RAV4 – the latest offering from the boys at Toyota. Its improved features and competitive price range will surely raise an eyebrow or two in fans of the compact SUV, and soccer moms across the country. Wider and longer than before this beefed up RAV4 is lower than its predecessor but where it lacks in height it makes up for in design.

There will be four models to choose from with a choice of three unique engines. The first and most affordable being the 2.0 litre petrol engine with its eager 107 kW pushing out 187Nm of torque. This standard model will be a front-wheel drive.

The other two models will be available in all-wheel drives and offer a more powerful 132kW and 233Nm of strength. That is more than enough umf for the city driver who daydreams of dipping down sand dunes in the Kalahari Desert but wont’ necessarily have to.

Buyers also have the alternative of a 2.2-litre D-4D turbodiesel motor, basically doing the same thing as the other models but with a more tenacious hum. It’s also perfect for climbing up pavements at shopping malls or at concerts which is in any case why folks from the suburbs buy SUV s.

We’ll bring you a full and uhm, more serious review shortly. Till then check out the official price list:
