The Subaru BRZ – packed but pricey
Subaru have launched their BRZ coupe – the evil twin of the Toyota 86 – in South Africa. Though similar in appearance, the two cars differ dramatically in price.
This comes as surprising to most as the rear-wheel drive 2.0 litre BRZ, has a front-mounted boxer engine and a six-speed manual gearbox – exactly the same as the 86.
It boosts 147kW and 205Nm of aggression while BRZ-specific features include a sports performance exhaust and rear boot spoiler.
But that’s not all says Ashley Lazarus, marketing manager for Subaru South Africa. He says the major differences between the two cars are the front-end styling, dashboard material and last but not least, the suspension.
“Suspension forms the main point of difference between the BRZ and 86,” said Lazarus.
He added that “The Subaru’s suspension is slightly firmer at the front, with stiffer springs.” Ultimately meaning the BRZ has a more advanced handling dynamic and will have little to no problems in highlighting your alter ego.
Having said that, which will it be – Venom or Spiderman?
Subaru BRZ starts at R389 900
Toyota 86 starts at R298 500
