Horror crash at 2013 Houston GP
A bad day at the office.
Four-time IndyCar Series champ Dario Franchitti was rushed to hospital after a grizzly crash at this weekend’s Houston Grand Prix, which caused serious injury to scores of spectators.
Franchitti’s car shot into the air following a final lap collision with Japanese driver Takuma Sato, causing huge chucks of debris to fly through the fence and into the crowded grandstand.
The 40-year-old Scotsman suffered multiple fractures including a broken ankle. Franchitti’s team owner Chip Ganassi said: “His ankle and back are a little sore. He is going to be okay.”
Meanwhile race promoters said that at least eleven spectators had to be treated for injuries at the track, while a further two more were transferred to hospital to undergo further tests.
