Citroen will enter WTCC in 2014

Sébastien Loeb. Not content with collecting nine World Rally Championship drivers’ titles and driving the utterly bonkers 845kg/630kW Peugeot 208 T16 up a cliff in Colorado this weekend, he’s now decided to turn his hand to World Touring Cars.

And what’ll he be driving, we hear you howl? We, er, don’t actually know. But we do know whatever car it is will have a Citroenbadge on the bonnet, that it’s still in development, and, according to Frédéric Banzet, CEO of the Citroën Brand, it will “showcase Créative Technologie and help us to develop the Brand in promising growth markets such as China, Russia and South America.”

Citroën Racing Team Principal, Yves Matton, adds: “We will be able to re-use a large part of our existing expertise, starting with the DS3 WRC’s 1.6-litre direct injection turbo engine. Work has already begun in our Versailles technical centre and is set to be stepped up in the coming weeks, with the first tests of our car and the start of our development programme to prepare for the 2014 season.”

Loeb’s comments don’t give much away either. “I can’t wait to get out on track in the car and start testing. I have used this transitional year to try out various experiences and to improve my track driving skills. I don’t expect to win straight away, but I am determined to get there one day.”

Hmmm, doesn’t expect to win straight away? This is Sebastien Loeb. All he does is win. Unfortunately, we’ve only been sent is this wantonly ambiguous image of the sheathed racer. Any guesses as to what it is, TopGear.commers?
