Bentley confirms SUV by 2016
Bentley Motors confirmed on Tuesday that they’ll develop a super-premium SUV at their Crewe motoring plant in England.
The group also announced that their multi-billion Rand investment will create 1000 new jobs over the next three years. The luxury car manufacturer, owned by Germany’s VolkswagenGroup, says that the first units are set to go on sale by 2016.
Group chairman Martin Winterkorn said that, “The Volkswagen Group believes in the UK as a competitive location for industrial production. Bentley fans all around the world are looking forward to the brand’s first SUV”.
Anyone remember Bentley’s EXP 9 F Concept (pictured above) which was first unveiled at the 2012 Geneva motor show? Probably not. That’s because SUV is not the first image that comes to mind when the name Bentley gets mentioned.
Not much has been confirmed in terms of looks. The bit we do know is that, “The styling will set it apart from any other SUV on the road and will be true to the Bentley design DNA”.
For now we’d like to hear from you. Could a Bentley-badged SUV, unmistakably aimed at a high-end market, prove to be a suitable Cayenne or Range Rover rival? And is it somewhat too late to launch such a pricey project?
