Gallery: TopGear’s two part Africa epic finale

14 March, 2013 | by Benedict Pather

TopGear season 19 closed with a bang this week as our willing presenters proved once again, that pure grit and ingenuity will get you further than you can ever image. Set over two episodes, TopGear’s Africa special saw Clarkson, Hammond and May venture across our wonderful continent, travelling through tough terrain and multiple countries. Why you ask? To find the definitive source of the River Nile that’s why.

Instead of choosing a more suitable off-road vehicle, such as the South African built Toyota Hilux, the brave trio each chose a used car worth around £1,500 which they purchased over the internet. Clarkson drove a BMW 5-series, May a Volvo 850 T5-R and Hammond a Subaru Impreza WRX wagon.

What made these cars a bit more suitable was that they were modified so our presenters can sleep in them. Hence the cooking utensils, toilet seat, sofa on the roof and subsequent tow rope of course. Sounds like a thrilling adventure indeed. Let us know your thoughts on the show. Watch out for season 20 which was filmed down under, way under in the Lord of the Rings territory – New Zealand.
