Beetle juiced up

7 February, 2013 | by Benedict Pather

Long live great legends, and may they return someday sporting chic and modern features that will make even a grown women blush. Say hello to the limited-edition Volkswagen Beetle GSR which has just been unveiled at the 2013 Chicago auto show.

The GSR was produced in tribute to the original 1973 1300s model, which made its glorious debut 40years ago.

The eager yellow and black stripped bug will fly from 0-100km/h in 6.6sec and reach a top speed of 229km/h. It will push out a maximum torque of 280Nm while VW says fuel consumption will be 7.3 litres for every 100km.

GSR is an abbreviation for Gelb Schwarzer Renner, which translated means “yellow black racer.” As a ‘made to become’ collector’s item this car will however not be reaching our fare shores anytime soon. Bugger!
