Porsche’s model flurry continues, and today it’s the turn of the 2019 Porsche Panamera GTS. This one is for you purists, as it’s the re-emergence of the GTS moniker.
Available in both normal saloon or more booty ‘Sport Turismo’ spec, these two new models mark the 17th and 18th variant of the two-tonne, tech-laden executive shuttle you can buy. Which is knocking on the door of 911 levels, but if there’s another way to skin a cat, Porsche will sure as hell do it. Because profit margins.
Like the Panamera GTS models of old, it’s pretty much business as usual: bits and bobs from across the range and plenty of options all thrown in with the addition of an alcantara steering wheel and lots of red stitching to keep people who like driving happy.
Power of the Panamera GTS comes courtesy of a detuned version of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 and feeds 338kW and 618Nm through an eight-speed PDK to slot handily under the Turbo’s performance. Capable of 0-100kph in 4.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 291kph in the saloon and 290kph for the Sport Turismo, it’s got more than enough oomph to get you down the ‘bahn in a breeze.
Adaptive air suspension comes as standard on the Panamera GTS but has been dropped by 10mm over standard cars – further improving an incredible stance. But as it’s the sportier model, the suspension and chassis have been tweaked and the brakes enlarged (390mm up front and 365mm at the rear) to keep those keen on scrubbing sidewalls happy. If they aren’t, there’s the possibility to add rear-wheel-steering to up agility further.
With the addition of some black accents front and back, the updated styling is typical GTS. Now however, there’s a configurable head-up display – a first for the Panamera. Orders for Panamera GTS and Sport Turismo GTS are open with deliveries midway through 2019, but final pricing in South Africa has not been confirmed.
